Reports from the Economic Times, INDIA will be getting its first bullet train that will link up Mumbai and Ahmedabad that include stint below sea level.
In short, the passengers will experience the thrill of riding under the sea while travelling Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Using the new train, the distance between the two cities will be covered in two hours with maximum speed of 350 kmph and operating speed of 320 kmph.
According to a senior Railway Ministry Official involved with the bullet train project, the 508 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor will have 21 km long tunnel under the sea. Since most parts of the corridor should be on elevated track, under-the-sea stretch will lie near Thane creek towards Virar.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited India and supported the country with $12 billion soft loans to build the bullet train. The loan agreement of the two country will push forward and be signed by end of 2016 and construction work to begin by year 2018.
