This tiny ‘ultra-light’, ‘ultra compact spacecraft” to send to space is a plan between Russian venture capitalist Yuri Milner together with physicist Stephen Hawking for exploring the Alpha Centauri.
The new project is called Breakthrough Starshot which costs at least $100 million initiative in exploring the Alpha Centauri, the star system nearest to us.
The goal of the project is to explore the needed technologies to create tiny light-powered spacecraft in reaching the Alpha Centauri in just 20 years.
Pete Worden, former director of NASA’s AMES Research center will led the project and even Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg will join Stephen Hawking and Milner as the project’s board of directors.
