SMRT Services is partnering with 2 Getthere Holding, a dutch company, to supply fully automated driverless public transportation vehicles to Singapore and Asia-Pacific market by end of 2016.
Colin Lim, Managing Director of SMRT Services said that they pursuing to implement future mobility solutions in regards to a growing national push with the existing needs of transport operations in Singapore. The Automated Vehicles will complement with Singapore’s existing multi-modal transport operations for seamless connectivity for commuters.
The concept of GRT (Ground Rapid Transit) shows like a minibus, with wide automated doors on either side to allow for rapid ingress and egress.
The vehicle can accommodate up to 24 passengers with reconfigurable interior seating and standing space. It’s Air conditioning is installed in the roof to allow for standing room and it can shuttle up to 8,000 passengers an hour in a single direction.
GRT vehicles will be completely electric provided with a Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) rechargeable battery, automated and driverless equipped with obstacle detection and avoidance systems.
